Safe, Humane Bee Control & Nest Removal

Bees play a vital role in our ecosystem, but when they choose to nest in or around homes and businesses, they can pose a safety risk—especially during the busy summer months when swarms are more active.

At Briarquest Pest Control, we offer professional bee removal services across Scunthorpe, Grimsby, Hull, and the surrounding areas. Our approach is always safe, ethical, and focused on relocation rather than extermination.

If you’ve discovered a bee swarm or bee nest in your roof, chimney, garden, or wall cavity, contact us on 01724 376330 for swift support.

Important Info Bee Swarms in the Open

If you’ve discovered a bee swarm in the open and within easy reach (such as on a low branch or fence), you may be able to get it removed for free by contacting a local beekeeper. The British Beekeepers Association (BBKA) has a network of volunteer swarm collectors who often remove accessible swarms at no charge.

Briarquest Pest Control is not part of this voluntary service and does not offer free swarm collection. We receive a high number of enquiries from people assuming we provide this service at no cost, but we are a professional pest control company and charge for all site visits and bee-related work.

If you need bee removal in a hard-to-reach area, within the structure of your property, or where safety is a concern, we can help. Our service includes safe bee relocation and structural nest removal, with any necessary building or roofing access arranged as part of the job.

Why Bee Control Matters

Bees are less aggressive than wasps, but they can still sting when provoked—particularly if they feel their nest is threatened. In high-traffic areas like schools, nurseries, workplaces, or homes with children or pets, this can pose a serious risk.

While bees aren't legally protected in the UK, 25% of bee species are endangered, which is why our team prioritises safe, non-lethal removal and relocation whenever possible.
Should I Try To Remove Bees Myself?
No. Bee removal should never be attempted without proper PPE, equipment and training. Not only could you risk being stung, but disturbing a hive without the right technique could cause the bees to swarm and become aggressive.

Additionally, damaging your roof, chimney or brickwork in the process could result in expensive repairs. Let the experts at Briarquest handle it—quickly, safely and humanely.

Common Types of Bees in the UK

Honey Bees
Honey bees often become an issue when they build hives in wall cavities, chimneys, roof spaces, air vents or behind soffits. When they swarm, the situation can escalate quickly—especially if honey begins to accumulate and attract other pests.

In some cases, removal involves a "chop out", where structural access is needed. We can work with builders and roofers to remove the hive, relocate the bees, and ensure the property is made good afterwards.

Act quickly if you see a swarm, as early intervention makes for easier, safer removal.
Bumblebees
Bumblebees are typically non-aggressive and are unlikely to sting unless provoked. However, they can build nests under sheds, in lofts, compost heaps, and garden waste.

Their nests look like clusters of small marbles, and while their presence is less concerning than honey bees, they can still cause disruption in certain settings.
Other Bees
You might also come across:

Mining Bees
Mason Bees
Common Carder Bees
Solitary Bees

These species vary in their behaviour, nesting sites, and potential risk. Whether it’s a small bee hotel in your garden or a full colony in your loft, our team can help you understand and deal with the issue responsibly.

Our Bee Nest Removal Process

At Briarquest Pest Control, we specialise in structural bee removal, particularly in complex areas like chimneys, soffits, roof cavities, and walls. Here’s how we do it:

Initial Survey – Identify the species and assess the level of risk
Access Planning – If structural access is needed, we’ll work with professionals to gain entry
Safe Removal – We relocate live bee colonies wherever possible
Clean-up – Removal of honeycomb, wax and bees to prevent future infestations
Restoration – We’ll make arrangements to repair access points, if required

All our work is carried out safely, discreetly and in accordance with UK guidelines on wildlife control. We’re proud to support biodiversity by relocating bees responsibly while also keeping your property safe and stress-free.
